About GVPT Program
Upon graduation many of our students pursue employment in government, with inter-governmental or international non-governmental agencies, or go on to pursue graduate degrees in law or the social sciences. All of these paths require in depth understanding of plural societies, inter-cultural competency and context sensitive problem solving skills. Therefore, in GVPT our goals are to:
- Teach International Cultural Competency.
- Develop student International Political Acumen .
- Improve student International Problem Solving Skills by teachings tools of political analysis.
We take a multi-pronged approach to achieving these goals. For example, in the major we offer high quality, low cost classes, taught by our regular faculty on campus and combined with an experiential trip to locations relevant to the material you have studied. We also organize - in a searchable way - the multiple relevant electives in a way that helps you work with an adviser to fit experiential learning into your busy schedule and budget.
We hope that all of our students can find here an international experiential opportunity that fits their schedule and budget. If you have any questions about these programs please visit the gvpt advisors page at https://gvpt.umd.edu/undergraduate/undergraduate-advising.
