Race Relations in the US and France

This is a new course that combines lectures at the College Park campus with a study abroad component in Paris, France during Spring Break 2020. Students must complete both the study abroad and on-campus components for credit.

Materials

Description

  • The course will focus on racial and ethnic politics in the U.S. and France.

  • The goal of the course is to contrast the experiences of racial and ethnic minorities in the U.S. with those in France. It is designed to explore how racial and ethnic groups shape and are shaped by the American and French political system.

  • Among the topics to be covered include the meaning and measurement of race and ethnicity, immigration politics, prejudice, and political representation.

  • Financial aid and/or need-based scholarships may be available.

Application

Students may Apply Now on Education Abroad's website. In order to participate in this program, students must also register for GVPT388R via Testudo by the Spring 2020 registration deadline (early February 2020). GVPT388R is scheduled to meet on Thursdays 11am-12:40pm during the Spring semester.

In order to register for GVPT 388R, students must complete a Memorandum of Understanding (attached above under "Materials") and return it to Karmin Cortes, Associate Director of Undergraduate Studies.
